Highlights And Low Notes Of VOV

By Barbara Murphy

For Seven years in this "Circle Of Life" we've blended our voices in song,
We've been quite large, and we've been small, but together we've been strong.

We've sight read music, clapped out rhythm, and listened for our notes;
"Let's try that again" "That's not right" "Don't push, we'll hurt our throats"

To Darren we say thank you for each week getting us started;
You warm us up, and encourage us, you are so good hearted.

"Stand for me please," we hear each week; "Breath in, breath in,hiss out!"
"Let's pick a shoulder; roll those heads, breath in, breath in, hiss out!"

Now we're going to vocalize; you basses take the C.
Altos you go up a third, and tenors you take the G.

Sopranos sing an octove higher; Oh, you're all such musical gens!
Now one more time let's not forget, "Mommy made me eat my M and M's."

When we arrive on Tuesday nights; after playing the parking lot game,
We shake our heads and wonder if we will ever be the same.

Accompanist came, and accompanist go, we here are trul blessed,
Don't think she ever misses a note; she's the very best!

We love you Nancy, oh yes we do, you keep us right on track,
You are a top - notach pianist, you're talent and skills never lack.

Behind the scenes the Board works hard, they get the name tags ready,
They help set up and then tear down, They're there for us, they're steady.

"Do this! Do that! Go here! Go there! "They're Mr. Jones" "go - fers."
And surely everybody knows, they certainly are not loafers.

To Jimmy and Amanda, who handles the music, sound equipment and such,
All of us thank you, so very; very much.

Thank you vocal captains, you all do lots and lots,
You strive to keep us all on pitch, and workout the rough spots.

Every fall it's so exciting, there's always so much cheer,
We know, because we always sing; "Christmas Time Is Here."

Candlelight at Epcot is highlight of the year,
We hear right the Bible the Christmas story so clear.

"Joy to the World" and "Shout for Joy" an experience sublime,
Derrek Johnson or Dr.Sinclair, who will conduct this time?

"Stille Nacht" and "Il Est Nest, "we sing other languages with pride,
Why this year we even want an a "Hawaian Roller Coaster Ride."

Tee - shirts, golf shirts, and now button downs, with VOV logo;
Black parts, black shoes and yes, black sox, now we're to go.

From "Musick's Empire" to "Big Band Bash," a variety ofstyles we do,
"America The Beautiful," " Whistle While You Work" and yes, "Deep River" too.

We sing when it's hot, we sing when it's cold, we've even sung in the rain;
One time we sang in a lightning storm, oh, we're really not insane.

Arabian Nights, the PAC, give Kids the World, or a Mall;
Lutheran Towers, Downtown Disney, and even City hall.

Barns & Noble, Rollins College, UCF are more places we have sang,
Voices of Volencia have made their mark, our banner has been hung!

Some times we stand on risers, and boy it sure gets tight!
Some times we stand right on the floor, with or without light.

Last but not least, our Mr. Jones; our Conductor, our teacher and Boss;
Each of us surely know that without you we'd be at a loss.

You work so hard on repertoire, you're always recruiting, and then,
You show such pride in VOV, for all the ladies and the men.

To all of us you mean so much; we all appreciate you;
We wish the very best for you, we love you, yes, we do!

To Nancy, Darren and Mr.J.; again we say thank you;
To you we give some "Simple Gifts" because we love you too!

Now we're down to the code, but that's not the end of our fling;
The Voices of Volencia, will "Lift Every Voice And Sing."

As we go on through this "Circle Of Life," highs and lows increase;
We know that if we keep looking up, "We Shall Walk Through The Valley In Peace."
